Since arriving in Australia 45 years ago, Satinder Samra has been actively involved in building community and supporting small businesses in Western Australia. Most recently a candidate for the Micro Business Party, Satinder is passionate about lobbying for the rights of small business owners who are negatively impacted by the economic climate or political decisions of those in power. He believes small businesses are the backbone of the Australian economy and should be better supported by both Federal and State governments, especially in consideration of the extraordinary percent of taxes they pay.
He believes in justice for small business operators. When Uber started operating illegally in W.A, Satinder took on the rights of the Taxi Industry and helped form the Taxi Operators Legal Defence (TOLD) group which managed a massive class defence and acted against the State Government in the Supreme Court of W.A.
Satinder is a born leader and activist. He has held a number of leadership roles in his involvement with the Indian Association of WA and Sikh Association of Western Australia (SAWA). He was the President of SAWA for a number of terms and was an instrumental part of the Development Committee who designed and built the monumental Sikh Temple in Canning Vale. This was inaugurated by then Premier Geoff Gallop in 1999.
His desire to build community and participation through sport saw him sit on the national committee of the long-running Annual Australian Sikh Games which see over 3,500 participants from 80 Australian clubs and 11 international clubs compete in 14 sports.
Satinder was part of a small organising committee that formalised these games over 33 years ago. The Games now draw crowds of up to 100, 000 people over three days. Satinder has been actively involved in many fundraising initiatives linked to community development.
Satinder is married and has three children and four grandchildren. He has a Bachelors Degree in Science and hold qualifications in Real Estate.
He is campaigning for a safe, strong and super WA.
